Nagalapuram Falls

We decided to have a trip to Nagalapuram water falls on May 11, 2019, but we heard that the entry to falls is closed for several months as couple of persons died in their trip. So before starting we ensured people are permitted to visit falls. Nagalapuram fall is located in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh at the distance of 100 KM from Tambaram.

As usual one day trip, we (group of 4 members) started the trip around 6.00 AM, and travel via Tambaram - Thiruvallur - Poondi - Nagalapuram (Via Outer Ring Road). There were 2 major lakes of Tamilnadu, Chembarambakkam lake, Poondi lake and a dam, pitchathur dam in Andhra in our way to Nagalapuram. We visited only Poondi lake, which is a massive one and major water source for Chennai and surroundings. As it was summer, we could not see water full of lake. We had our breakfast before we reach Nagalapuram.

We were following the path guided by google map and we reached an area around 9.00 AM where we could see people, shops, houses in less number. It meant we are about to reach where we willing to go, at the same time fuel in my bike is about to be exhausted. We came to know after inquired with a local person, we have to travel 10 KM backward or 20 KM forward to get it filled. Luckily there were some little shops selling fuel in water bottles. A liter of fuel was sufficient for me to visit falls and return back to next fuel station.

We have to get token for each person to get entered into the forest which costs Rs.20 per head. We left our bikes at parking area and had to walk about a kilometer to enter into the forest. It was little harder for us to walk in hot sun, as it was a summer season, however we entered into forest.

Temple falls is the first one located in the way of trekking. It’s actually not a fall, instead a pond was made and water flows through the pond. We spent some time in the pond. After some time we moved to next pond, which is quite better than previous one. Water looks very clear and didn’t lose its chillness even in the hot sun. As there were lot of fishes, we started fishing using a cloth and we let the fishes back into the water which we caught. Spent some worthy time there.

We had to walk some distance, say around a km to reach next fall. We were not allowed to take bath directly in the falls as the pool was deep. Separation was made inside the pool to block people to go deeper and permitted part of the pool is enough to enjoy in a safer way. This pool is slightly deeper than others. The next one is main fall which we didn't visit because we heard that, it is similar to current fall, the only difference is its more deeper than current one. To reach that we need to walk some distance, say around 2 KM towards the hill.

Whatever the falls you visit, you can enjoy the three things

1. Chillness of water even in a hot day
2. Beauty of the nature at any season
3. Pool full of fishes

Visiting Nagalapuram post June, July rather than summer season could have given some more better feeling, yet we enjoyed a lot. It was about 3.00 PM, we thought to return back to home. We had filled fuel tank as well as out stomach in Pitchathur, which is the nearest town from Nagalapuram. Finally we reached Tambaram around 7.00 PM
